Surgical Gowns Vs. Isolation Gowns. What's the difference?

Difference between Isolation Gowns and Surgical gowns

To put it shortly, Isolation gowns provide a 360 Degree protection, they protect whatever they cover. While Surgical gowns only provide protection from the top of the shoulders to your knees and your arms your wrists to your elbows.

Surgical Gowns:

Surgical gowns are designed to be worn, as the name suggests, during surgical procedures to protect the patient and the wearer. They provide protection on critical areas during surgical procedures, such as the arms from the wrist to your elbows and from the top of the shoulders to the knees.

They can cover any risk category from 1-4 and can protect the wearer and the patient from any transfer of microorganisms or bodily fluids. Depending on the AAMI level they pass, they can provide increasing levels of protection.

Isolation Gowns :

Isolation Gowns are used in more uncontrolled environments. Hence, they go beyond the protection provided by Surgical gowns, as Isolation gowns provide protection on every part of the body they cover.

Isolation Gowns too, like Surgical Gowns, can be used for any risk category from 1-4 depending on the AAMI level they achieve during testing.

Can Isolation Gowns be used as Surgical Gowns?

Definitely! Isolation gowns provide wider range of protection and can sure be used as Surgical Gowns. However, the other way around is not possible.
